What is a Full-Auto BB Gun?
An automatic BB gun is an air gun designed to shoot steel BBs quickly, either with fully automatic (full auto) or semi-automatic (semi-auto) capabilities. With a full-auto BB gun, you can pull the trigger, and as long as you keep the trigger pulled, it continues to shoot. With a semi-automatic BB gun, every time you pull the trigger, you shoot one BB, the same as a firearm.
These guns provide fast-paced and exciting shooting action and usually resemble real guns in some way. Play safely because these are not toys. Always wear eye protection and follow the safety protocols because metal BBs can ricochet.
How Does a Semi or Full-Auto BB Gun Work?
Most full or semi-automatic BB guns use CO2-powered small cartridges which cycle the action very quickly, sending BBs downrange at a rapid rate. Some full-auto BB guns use a pump or battery to supply air to the compression chamber, which is released to propel the BB on each pull of the trigger or sustained hold. It releases a continuous or burst flow of air that drives BBs out the barrel.
Semi-automatic BB guns work in the same way as full-auto BB guns except that you can only fire one round at a time with each pull of the trigger. This can provide more control when firing and possibly save ammo. Many full-auto models give you the option of semi-auto or full-auto, giving you flexibility while shooting.
Some of the models use blowback action as the slide moves like it would in a real firearm. Others concentrate on performance and speed and don't simulate the recoil effect.
Why Should I Buy a Semi or Full-Auto BB Gun?
Full-auto BB guns provide a level of excitement that few air guns can rival. If you're interested in maximum fast shooting, the most realistic design, and maximum fun, automatic BB guns provide all these qualities.
- Training: Many of the semi-automatic and full-auto BB guns are replicas of real firearms. Automatic BB guns provide a safe and cheaper, effective way to train.
- Plinking: Full auto is just fun. Whether you're popping cans in the backyard or executing target drills, full auto makes anything in the backyard more exciting.
- Versatility: Semi-auto provides control, while full auto provides speed. Many models provide both modes of fire, giving you flexibility in a variety of shooting situations.
- Cost: Steel BBs are pretty cheap. A hundred steel BBs is an offseason practice session for a few bucks, allowing you to shoot more productively and more effectively as an economical shooter.
If you're just starting or even an experienced shooter who wants to add something fun to your collection, often, a full-auto BB gun is a great way to keep practicing, plinking, and experience fast-action shooting.
