What is a CO2 Air Rifle?
A CO2 air rifle is a rifle that uses CO2 cartridges as the compressed gas that propels the projectile toward the target. These are some of the most convenient and user-friendly air guns on the market.
How Does a CO2 Air Rifle Work?
CO2 air rifles use the power of liquid carbon dioxide in cartridges that are loaded into the gun before it can shoot. It's a simple and effective principle.
When you pull the trigger, a valve opens, releasing a measured amount of CO2 from the cartridge. The released gas expands rapidly behind the pellet, propelling it down the barrel.
Unlike Springers or pump pneumatics, which require manual effort to compress the air, CO2 rifles use stored energy in the pressurized cartridges for multiple shots without additional effort between shots. These cartridges come in two common sizes: 12 grams and 88 grams, with 12 grams being the most common. The 12-gram cartridges often provide 40-60 shots per fill, while the 88-gram cartridges provide 200+ shots per fill.
