8 of 8 Hammerli AP20 PRO Reviews
Overall construction appears to look good. Everything is adjustable. Decent trigger. Lightweight. Walnut grip. It does not leak air. Shot string is consistently 490-505 FPS with 7-8 grain pellets.
Things I Would Have ChangedI am having some issues with accuracy with this particular air pistol. I can not get it to shoot consistently. In a shot string of 5, 2 are on the bull, the other 3 are a inch high and to the left. I have tried numerous different pellets and used different weights of pellets. Also it is impossible to get the grip to tighten up and stay in place. Even with very careful technique I can not get it place accurately. I have been using a av 46 for a couple of years and I do not have these issues. I can stack 3-5 pellets at time at 10 meters with the av 46, even though it is a rather crude SSP. Ergonomically the grip has some sharp edges that need sanded down. I think the grip could be finished much better.
What Others Should KnowI have had this for about 2 weeks and I have shot around 500-1000 rounds through it. As I bought this as refurb I am not sure that I can return it. I probably need to return it. I need this to pursue competition at the CMP here in Ohio. I am a very experienced marksman and I can not use this in competition there, I will have to use my av 46 for now. At the CMP they will rent Pardini match pistols, which I have done before, and found those to be very competent and consistently accurate, but I prefer to use my own equipment. I am not very happy about this particular sample, and may not represent the average quality of this brand. I own many different air rifles and pistols, and I generally do not have problems that I can not solve. In my opinion, buy something else.
Failure to fire: it keeps frequently "failure to fire", it has been sent in for two times 8/ 2 and 15th, going on the 3rd time 8/24. Walther excellent warranty reception and turnaround, but not fixed! The trigger wight was too high by the feel, then on 2nd warranty repair, too high 535 gr. and some time too low! frustrating as i have missed three matches, since March!
Things I Would Have ChangedThe feel and grip excellent, the trigger position right on, the capacity of the airtube is a comfortable 200 shots, the loading mechanism function for right handed I am. But it keeps on falling to fire, frequently and without pattern.
What Others Should KnowThis model is no suitable for competition and its unreliable in my case. SR # 11206, 2022.
Simple precision - Walther quality. I've had it now for only a few weeks, but it's been the only gun I've been shooting, although I mix it up a bit with my AV 46M. My eyes are showing every day of my age, so it's not easy to see the target 10 meters away, but I've managed some two inch groups using the olympic technique, which gets very fatiguing very fast. I've managed a few 50 pellet rounds, though. The air cylinder lasts for at least 100 shots, but I haven't chronied it yet to check the regulation of this gun. Trigger is just fine, haven't touched it, and probably won't. Sanded down a few of the sharp edges to the wood, but no major reshaping, like I had to do with the 46M. Looking forward to trying some real competition with this, I think there's a range and contest in Hudson, MA which should open soon. Hope there's a senior group - no way I'd be any threat to any youngsters....
Things I Would Have ChangedReally can't think of anything - maybe color the front sight white or yellow rather than the black it is, but I can do that with a dab of paint. It would be nice to have U and D and L and R instead of the arrows for the windage and elevation adjustments at the rear sight, but those germans don't like to do things ungermanlike....
What Others Should KnowThe air cylinders I have both tend to be really difficult to remove once threaded on, both from the gun and from the charging system, either hand pump or compressor. Incidentally, it seems to be impossible to top up the cylinders using my Nomad compressor - since the cylinder needs to be removed from the gun to fill, apparently the compressor doesn't like the back pressure that sets in, and it chugs for a few seconds and then turns off. I've needed to discharge the cylinder and fill it from empty every time using the Nomad. But using the hand pump I can top off the cylinders without issue, usually from about 125 to the 200 bar max. At my age and stature using a hand pump is far from easy, but it can be done, In fact, for quite a few strapping youths, it's probably the quickest and best way to do these. Just remember you need to unscrew the cylinder quickly to release the hose pressure. I don't remember there being any demo or videos available about this variance of PCP filling.
Good balance, good trigger
Things I Would Have ChangedSights need contrast to see front sight
What Others Should KnowBuy adapter for your filling when purchasing. Can't find extra cylinder anywhere!
Balance
Things I Would Have ChangedTrigger pull
Fantastic fit & finish! Accurate and well balanced. It's really a great pistol at an affordable price!
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing I can think of so far. Perhaps an option for the large grip although the medium does fit my 92 mm hand pretty well.
What Others Should KnowAlthough not pictured my pistol did come with the trigger guard. It's attached via a supplied screw.
After a long time of Brazilian customs clearance, my Hammerli AP20 PRO, got here. Beautiful air gun, very well finished. Unhappily it came without the front sight and the screw that holds in the place, most likely caused by the handling. No problem! I know that Pyramid Air will sell another one to me.
Things I Would Have ChangedI wouldn't change anything...
What Others Should KnowI didn't rate Accuracy, because I didn't shot yet.

I like almost everything about this air pistol. I really like the ability to dry fire it easily. Easy to load. Makes me appear to be a much better shot than I am.
Things I Would Have ChangedI would change the program that has deleted my comment four times because I used an apostrophe in my comment. I wish the gun had a better method of filling the cylinder.
