10 of 52 H&N Field Target Trophy Green .177 (4.5mm) Cal Reviews
They seem to be very well made, like just about anything available from H&N. I guess it's the lighter weight, or maybe even the shorter length (?), but I've had some trouble with accuracy using these pellets in both .177 and .22 caliber; the only pellets EVER to give me such trouble in any of the variable pumpers and CO2 airguns making up the majority of my almost thirty airgun collection. Due to breakers always shooting at max warp speed, I'm leery of tryin' these at all in my fancy Norica ZRS or cheapo Umarex gas piston air rifles.
Things I Would Have ChangedMore weight and LOWER COST.
What Others Should KnowI don't like them at all -- YMMV, of course. I might not be able to use up the tins I bought to try them, so I certainly have no need to buy more. Caveat emptor.
Accurate and consistent through Umarex 10/22 CO2 rifle and crossman legacy 1000, in calm winds with CHEAP 7x tasco scope I have managed to stack holes at 65 yards (190+ feet). Does better than other lead frees I have tried so far through both.
Things I Would Have ChangedHigh Price; they're Nice pellets And I'm trying to be considerate of my neighbors (easily available areas that make unobstructed lanes with low elevation changes present potential beyond target risk for firearms) and nice to my yard and anywhere things might later be growing to eat, but the price starts to rival rimfire ammo
What Others Should KnowStock up during ammo deals or when expecting to meet free shipping requirements. Once you get these dialed in for a chosen distance/conditions the consistency you can hit targets with can be addictive. I burned through the first tin so fast I had to scold myself!
Very accurate in DW 715, 4" and 2.5"
For the CO2 guns is O.K.
Things I Would Have ChangedJust harder than lead. Need to be soft more.
What Others Should Knowso far nothing yet.
I was interested in the "No Lead Option" and that was a positive in my area.
Things I Would Have ChangedWhen I had bought a couple of tins I saw that they were recomended for only PCP arms. Since I don't have any, I thought that this had been an error on my part, but they do work well in my single pump pneumatic arms. I will not use them in the spring piston arms.
What Others Should KnowI think that any restriction on pellets should be made very clear, before ordering.
I like these pellets being lead free. Great for indoor shooting. Very accurate!
Things I Would Have ChangedThe high price is the only thing I would like to see change.
What Others Should KnowShooting lead free is The healthy way to go. The extra cost is well worth it.
They look good.
Things I Would Have ChangedThey are too big. Dont fit in my pistols.
What Others Should KnowThey are too big!
Seal on the tin, quality of pellet condition
Things I Would Have ChangedMake these in a 7 grain version
What Others Should KnowAccuracy in my P17 at 30 feet was very good. I think I would need to change from off-hand to resting on a shooting bench if I really want to push the limits on these
Easy availability. Lead free.
Things I Would Have ChangedAccuracy. These failed badly out of both my Vigilante and 2300KT with Lothar Walther match barrel. If for some reason you do not want to damage the bullseye, these are the pellets for you!
What Others Should KnowIn defense of the design, the .22 caliber version works well in my 2240 (see my review). The .177 version? On a 10m indoor range, these fly all over the map out my of 2300KT and Vigilante. Can't blame "lead-free": 3 other lead-free pellets work at competition levels out of the same guns: H&N Match Green 5.25 gr wadcutter, Predator GTO 5.5 gr wadcutter, and GTO 6.79 gr domed. The heavier GTO 6.79 gr needed a dot sight adjustment as was expected. I am reluctant to down-rate a pellet because it won't work in my gun(s). But failure in 2 guns when 3 other pellets perform spectacularly is proof enough for me.

They're well made and a good bit shorter than most of the other lead free domed pellets, so the fit is quite good and even can be a big plus for airguns with a smaller breech. That's the good stuff.
Things I Would Have ChangedNearly everything. First and foremost is accuracy. For the most part, incredibly patient and super careful aim can get me on or very close to on target most of the time, but now and then one inexplicably will just fly way off, even if everything else (aim, breathing, hold, etc.) was exactly the same as the shot before it! This happens too often to be happenstance, and if I can't reliably hit what I'm shootin' at, they're useless! The .22 caliber version is even worse, at least out of all the airguns in which I've tried them (mostly better variable pumpers and CO2 air rifles). The .177 and .22 tins I bought many months ago to try them out aren't even halfway gone and it's looking like I might not ever get through what's left (unless I have nothing else). I really had no prior experience with any particular pellet giving me problems (almost all my shooting is indoors at 30 feet), even in my spring and air piston breakers, but these do, making the exorbitant cost even worse.
What Others Should KnowFor me, the H&W Baracuda Green (in both .177 and .22 caliber) are FAR more reliably accurate, although they're a bit longer and slightly more expensive. In .22 caliber, I've also had good results with the Crosman red-plastic penetrator pellets and they're a good bit heavier than the others as well. The Predator GTO lead free pellets are just ACE in every airgun in which I've tried them. They're very, very expensive, yes, but I absolutely can count on getting fantastic performance with them every time! I don't know enough about the industry, but it seems to me like ALL pellets not made of lead are ridiculously overpriced. If you go lead-free, expect your pellet costs to increase by 500 to 1000
