Description
The Nitro Piston Technology has proven to be a valuable aid to hunters. There's nothing worse than knowing your metal spring might be fatigued and not provide the power and energy you need to humanely dispatch your prey. With a gas piston, you'll always have the same power and never have to give it a second thought because the gas piston does not suffer from the same issues. Get either the .177 or the .22 Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk to shoot spinners, pop the heads off dandelions, kill tin cans or dispatch small garden pests. If you shoot rats, mice, chipmunks and rabbits, the .177 caliber will have sufficient power. For raccoons, possums and ground hogs, it's best to use the .22.

If you shoot a lightweight pellet so its velocity exceeds the speed of sound, it could result in your pellet breaking the sound barrier and the gun being louder than expected! The speed of sound depends on humidity, temperature and altitude. Generally speaking, it's between 1,060 fps and 1,115 fps.
Here are the benefits of Nitro Piston Technology:
- Smoother cocking
- Smoother shooting
- No spring torque
- No spring fatigue, even if you leave it cocked for hours
- Functions perfectly in cold weather
- Lasts longer than a metal spring

This rifle is very accurate and light weight it is a good gun for a day of hunting I found the trigger satisfactory I have no complaints with this air rifle
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
What Others Should KnowThe gas piston is an excellent choice for hunting because the rifle can be left cocked witch makes my time on target much faster and I can leave it cocked with out fear of damaging the gun witch isn't the case with a springer .I find hunting more enjoyable with this gas piston system
The overall feel of the rifle is amazing. Just by holding it you know you got a bad boy in your hands. Also, it actually looks even better in person. I highly recomend this rifle for those who are looking for the biggest bang for your buck.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing, as the price is outstanding.
What Others Should KnowPowerful, accurate gun.
Easy to cock, accurate, what more could you ask for? I have put at least 1000 pellets through mine so far and it is still shooting the Crosman 7.4gr Wadcutter and 7.5gr Destroyers around 1149 FPS developing around 23 foot pounds of energy. This rifle has all the power you will need in a .177 and it's accurate.
Things I Would Have ChangedObviously Crosman's garbage trigger system, Though Center Point do make good scopes and there is nothing wrong with the scope that is bundled with this rifle. I would have bundled it with their 3-9x40AO scope that comes with the Benjamin Trail NP and NPXL series. That is a great scope!
What Others Should KnowMake sure you clean the barrel before firing, Make sure all the screws are tight. Install a CDT GTXII trigger
This is a fantastic air rifle! Very high quality and the gas piston works great. I haven't had any problems with this gun. High quality scope too.
Things I Would Have Changednothing
What Others Should KnowOvertime the scope may slide backwards in the rings due to the recoil from shooting. I recommend buying rings with a stronger grip to solve this problem.
The gun is nicely crafted and it looks and feels great, I like the overall weight of the Nitro Venom and its not as hard as I thought it would be to cock. At 25 yards this things cuts a hole in half inch plywood.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe scope is a little hard to zero, but Its mainly because the mounting screws back out easy. I would make sure to use some type of locking compound when mounting the scope.
What Others Should KnowDoesn't shoot the shoot the lead free high speed pellets as accurate as it does the diablo exact jumbo heavy.
Accurate air rifle for the price. The Nitro Venom has some weight but still feels balanced. Target shooting is fun but I'm using Crosman hollow points 7.9 grain. Wish I was using Crosman Domed 7.9 grain or 10.5 pellets. The rifle can hold groupings from about 10 Meters at about dime size. Sighting in this rifle with the scope was fun, I had my Uncle shoot and I spotted his shots on a large piece of poster board 10 meters away. We finally were satisfied with the accuracy after about 30 pellets. Couldn't get it any closer without a vice he said. It's not hard to break down the barrel on this gun which is great if you want to shoot for a while. Hit the tip of the barrel with the palm of your hand and pull down. The scope is satisfactory for my needs, you can shoot with both eyes open or off eye closed. Sometimes I do get eye strain from using the scope. I don't really mess with the magnification, I adjust the ocular lens just enough until the target is clear for my eyes.
Things I Would Have ChangedWish it had iron sights as well. .177 is a decent caliber, I preferred the faster velocity air rifle. Not sure if a .22 caliber would be any better accuracy wise, perhaps better knock down power sacrificing fps. I went .177 caliber I don't think you go wrong either way.
What Others Should KnowIf you are new to air rifles I think this is an excellent rifle to start with. I think the price is fair, shoots well, built well, and is fun if you have some time to put into this hobby. I recommend shooting from a rest, you can shoot off hand using artillery hold as well. This rifle is not a toy, it can kill small game if you like to hunt, use it for pest control, target shooting or whatever else is lawfully allowed with an air rifle where you live. Have fun and be safe.
After doing countless hours of research on which rifle I was going to purchase, the Nitro Venom Dusk in .22 filled the bill. I am not new to airgunning and this rifles claims were just what I was looking for. Light weight compared to my Hatsan 125 .25, much less hold sensative, and surprisingly, much more accurate. After just 100 pellets through it the gun was printing cloverleafs at 50 yards. Amazingly accurate for a rifle in the mid $100 range. Blue locktite will need to be applied to the stock screws in order to maintain consistent accuracy. The cocking cycle on this gun is extremely smooth. The barrel was horribly dirty. That is to be expected though. This rifles favorite pellets thus far are the Jsb Exacts 15.89 grain and the H&N Field Target Trophies 14.66 grain. At 50 yards with both these pellets the accuracy is scary good. I am very pleased with the purchase of this rifle.
Things I Would Have ChangedAbsolutely nothing.
What Others Should KnowWhen you receive this rifle and before you put any pellets through it, CLEAN the inside of the barrel thoroughly. Mine was very, very dirty. I noticed that no matter how tight you tighten the stock screws, after shooting 10-15 pellets they will become finger loose. I applied a liberal amount of Blue locktite to the stock screws and the issue was solved.
I wanted to own a gas piston gun and this fit the bill as far as price and function.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
What Others Should KnowThe gun I received seemed to be over-oiled and smoked even after 300 shots affecting consistent accuracy. I was determined to keep the gun and not send it back to PA for this problem.
After reading many other owners posts on a reputable airgun site, I decided to take matters into my own hands, which voids warranty and dis-assemble the gun to clean out the excessive oil. The gun stopped smoking and shot more accurately within 20 shots after burning off the light-er lube I used in re-assembly.
This gun appears to be one of those models the owner needs to "tinker" with to be a decent shooter. If you're not handy at the mechanics of the workings of an air rifle, probably should leave this gun to others who are not afraid to void warranty and tinker.
As with most lower priced guns, the trigger and scope are useable.....(what you paid for). Upgrades make a definite improvement and you will have a better shooting, (still) low-er priced gun.
I like the weight and looks, seems solidly built, but included scope is not very good, Crosman replaced it with no hassle.
Things I Would Have ChangedMy choice of gun, accuracy is terrible, my Hatsun Stryker, and Crosman Fury2 are much better, scope was awful too, crosman replaced it, but I put on a BSA Contender which cost more than the gun, but accuracy did not improve, shoots fine for 3-5 shots then the next few hit very low, very inconsistent!!
What Others Should KnowI wish I would have paid them to test this gun first, I wasted way more in pellets and time trying to get it figured out, I am contacting crosman to purchase a new seal as research has led me to the problem, would have retuned it but wife burned the outer shipping box.

Power, accuracy, looks, and it seems to be consistent. First day out of box, so needless to say it really hasn't been broken in yet. Ordered it with a UTG 4X32 AO scope. I knew the scope that comes with the gun is not up to the challenge of this power plant. Have a Fury NP in .177 and its a scope killer. First thing I did was run patches thru barrel. Only took 6-7 times to get a clean patch. I lubed all the hinge points because I knew those first few dozen times of cocking was going to be hard. Double checked all screws to make sure they were tight to start with. Then, READING directions for mounting scope, I did that as well. After a few rounds, I checked everything again, just a lil tightening needed. Worked on getting scope dialed in. I started at 15 yards, then 25, and worked my way back to 35. Ran out of daylight. Plinked cans in between changing my yardage. I love making pop cans dance. Really like this gun, yes I would recommend this rifle to friends and family.
Things I Would Have ChangedAs with most combo units, the scopes arent up to the task of the gun it comes with. My eyes are bad and will eventually have to give this up, until then, I will spend the money up front for a good scope. I didnt buy high end, but I did want something that will hold up to this gun. Wish Crosman would offer this rifle with an adjustable cheek rest. I'm not a big guy, more in the "fun sized" range. Ive added a picture with my review of what I done.
What Others Should KnowThis gun WILL HUNT. The power is great. It is slightly hard to cock, but worth it. I love the weight, and for me, the balance is good. I use as little force to aim this gun. If you hold a tight grip, it seems to kick harder and accuracy is less. No, its not a high end gun by any means, but if you want a gun that will get rid of pests, shred cans, put holes in the 7-8-9 rings of a target and live within your budget, this is the one. IF you get the scope that I did make sure to read all the directions first before you even start to mount it. In other words, dont go off half cocked and try to adjust it. There are some really good tips and things that will make your gun, scope, and you look good.
