In Africa, the Sjambok (Sham-Bawk) is a cattle prod, whip, riding crop and an effective means of self-protection, whether from venomous snakes, or from varmints of the two-legged variety! Unlike most western style whips which require a rolling crack to function, the semi-rigid Sjambok is swung like a rod or stick. The weight, speed and flexibility of the Sjamboks lash does all the work, and little skill or training is required to wield it effectively. Our synthetic polymer version of the classic Sjambok features a thick injection molded lash, and is equipped with a soft comfortable Kray-Ex handle thats designed to resemble braided leather. Since the Sjambok is made entirely from super-tough polymers, its incredibly durable and able to withstand weather conditions which would cause a traditional leather whip to break, crack or mildew.

More limber than I expected. Not a true walking stick/cane as it won’t support any weight. BUT offers a great option for self defense (check online for videos). Also great for snake country as it can easily probe tall grass or rocky outcroppings where snakes might be. Practical for livestock usage as well (again, check online vids).
I hit the ground to demonstrate hitting a snake, and about 4" broke off from the tip. Closer inspection shows air bubble trapped inside the plastic. Although it broke, I still enjoy it. I just wish Cold Steel pays attention and fixes this in the future. I bought the 42" and now it's 38". I believe the defect is caused from the air bubble.
Bought this for my son to keep copperheads at bay. He loves it.

Awesome sjambok. The design has been improved since I last had one, I lost my old one in a move. Much better comfort and just as devastating!
PURCHASED MY FIRST ONE IN THE MID-1990'S & SHOWED IT TO A FELLOW I HAD WORKED WITH FOR SEVERAL YEARS AFTER HE HAD MENTIONED "GOT SOME REALLY STUBBORN CATTLE @ THE SALE BARN THAT JUST DO NOT WANT TO MOVE WHEN I WANT THEM TO". HE BORROWED MINE FOR THE WEEKEND, CAME BACK TO WORK ON MONDAY & TOLD ME "I ORDERED ONE OF THOSE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SALE HAD ENDED. HAD TO STRIKE ABOUT 6 HEAD BUT NOT TOO HARD BUT WOW DID THEY MOVE WHEN I YELLED "GIT" !!!!! SO IF IT WORKED THAT WELL ON GROWN CATTLE, JUST IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD DO TO A CANINE OR A 2-LEGGED VARMINT----SEMPER-FI & OORAH !!!!!

Quite sometime ago, I purchased both a 42" and 54" brown color Sjamboks. I purchased these for home defense, since our neighborhood has been infested with homeless individuals. I also decided to purchase Cold Steelʻs DVD video set on "Self Defense with the Sjambok." I set up aluminum soda cans and water bottles to practice hitting with the weapon and while practicing with the 42" whip, the handle cracked and eventually broke off. The handle of the 54" whip, also cracked and eventually broke. I thought about using "super glue" to repair both sjamboks, but decided not to. I kept them for a while and eventually threw both of them away. Needless to say, I still have the DVD set on the Sjambok. Good reference for self defense. I am not sure at this point, if Iʻm going to purchase a Sjambok in the future.
