10 of 40 Beeman Commander Reviews
Good value for the money. Great bench target rifle but really heavy and not suitable for field use due to weight. Scope is junk so get yourself a decent scope. Rifle is also loud. Much louder than my other PCP rifles. Like the thumbhole stock and the location of safety. Really likes 25 grain pellets but nothing lighter than 18 grains or groupings are all over the place. The magazines are easy to load and feature a countdown indicator on side for easy viewing. Bolt action very smooth.
Things I Would Have ChangedOffer a synthetic stock to reduce the overall weight of the rifle. Make the suppressor removeable so you can install a better, quieter one on rifle. Put an adjustable regulator and gauge on it. Put an adjustable cheek riser on it too.
What Others Should KnowGreat entry level PCP rifle that's hard to beat for the money.
Sorry but I just can't give a good review I purchased this Gun (Order Placed: Dec 26, 2022) And alredy it leaks air and Pyramyd aid tells me they don't support it because it's to old so it's going back to Beeman I tried everything I could think of to fix it with no luck
Things I Would Have ChangedHave parts available for the gun
What Others Should KnowIt's not a totally bad gun when it works it's accurate has the power but leaking after 6 months sorry that is not acceptable
Very fast delivery and packaged well. Accurate and a good bench gun. Has a lot of power also. Nice trigger.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
What Others Should KnowThis gun is too heavy to take in the field hunting. I would suggest a lighter gun.
I like that it comes with iron sights unlike most PCP's
Things I Would Have ChangedThe new magazines only hold 10 rounds and for me are a pain to load keep the other 12 round magazines.
What Others Should KnowForget the scope that comes with the gun spend a little more and buy something that has adjustability!
Price, large number of shots, stock quality, smooth bolt, accuracy, power. My overall rating should be lower but is based partly on my experience with my other Commander in 22 cal. I just had some bad luck with this new .177 cal Commander as described below. When it worked it was very accurate and powerful and I still think it is one of the best values for entry level PCP's.
Things I Would Have ChangedReduce the weight, improve the suppressor (very loud).
What Others Should KnowI own a 22 cal Commander with no issues after several thousand rounds. I am so impressed with it that I decided to purchase another in .177 cal. for target shooting in back yard from a rest. So weight is not a big issue. I thought the .177 would be less noisy than the .22 both at muzzle and target. It was much louder at the muzzle than the 22. Beautiful stock. accurate and powerful. After about 200 rounds the rifle would not fire. I was going to use a chrono and tune to see if I could reduce the noise level but never got there. I did all the standard checks. Degassed and regassed a few times with no luck. I called PA and was referred to a technician that called me the very next morning. PA (Roger) could not have been more helpful and professional. He asked me a few questions and agreed with my efforts and apologized for the inconvenience. He sent me via email the postage paid return. Probably will go with a Marauder instead. Love my 22 Commander though. PA has great customer service!

Love this gun. Fun to shoot and hits hard. For the price it is really hard to beat for performance. I have a 40 yd range set up behind my house and it will put pellets inside of 3/4 inch all day long. I use a manual pump so i get a free workout to go with it. I have seen others comment on the scope but for that range a 4X works great and it is pretty decent considering the overall package price. Pyramyd gave me great service with a new set of scope mounts as the ones that came with the gun were incorrect. They quickly resolved that problem.
Things I Would Have Changedit is a heavy gun if you plan to hike through the woods with it. Otherwise solidly built with a real wood stock. You hug this gun to shoot it. Lighter would probably be nice but i am sure that would drive the price up.
What Others Should KnowThis is not a collectible gun - go shoot it and have a blast. I have 1000 rds through mine and love it. Some things are a bit cheap in terms of quality of the machining, smoothness of the bolt action, etc. but it is all part of bang for the buck. One issue is if you use the single shot tray, a pellet can fall back into the action and that is a real pain to shake it out. Stick with the magazine and that won't happen.
For a $200+ rifle, this is dang near unbeatable. I'd be hard pressed to find another gun with that delivers the same value for money. Almost one holing at 35yds. I'm a backyard plinker and power is not the most important thing, but out of the box, its already delivering 28fpe. Its handpump friendly and there's a hammer adjustment guide that you can turn with the big allen wrench provided. Anti clockwise to reduce power, clockwise to increase. The range of adjustment is wide...750fps all the way to 930fps with 16gr pellets...fill pressure dependent. The gun holds air with no pressure loss at all...for now.
Things I Would Have ChangedI'm not a big fan of the looks as I find it flabby round the edges, ie. the stock is too substantial and bulky. Could have done with a polymer stock for reduced weight. The gun is heavy at 9 pounds un-scoped. 10 pounds+ with a 6-24. The action is rough and at times gets stuck if you hesitate when cocking the gun. Not all pellets load smoothly. Those with bigger head sizes take some effort and finness. The 'moderator' is near useless. At full power, the neighbors will call the cops. The action is loud...much louder than it should be as poor machining makes the bolt jump with every shot, hitting metal against metal. Not pleasant!
What Others Should Know2,000psi fill pressure is the sweet spot I'm at now. Shot string starts at 800fps and ends at 770fps...one holing all the way at 35yds. I 50 consistent shots in this state of tune. Hammer spring guide turned all the way anti clockwise until its detaches, then back in 3.5 turns. Stop at 1,550psi...and it takes 80 pumps to get back up to 2,000psi. I can go on all day with this tune. When cocking the gun, do it in one swift smooth motion. Don't hesitate or you'll have failures to load. Oil the pellet probe lightly before you make that first shot to help it along. The gun is heavy (front heavy mostly) and contrary to popular notion its the action that's heavy. The airtank, breach assembly and barrel weigh 6lbs. The stock is 3lbs. The stock is made of real wood by the way...not 'composite wood' as suggested by one review I read. The gun can be uncocked the usual way. Trigger screw all he way in & get a slight first stage of travel and lots of creep in 2nd stage. Replace with longer M3 screw

After 3 years I decided to relay my thoughts. I bought the Commander .22 from Pyramyd Air back in '21. No doubt it's heavier than most but I like that - if shooting from a bench the weight helps with stability. Not great for carrying around in the field all day. It's become one of my favorite at home air rifles. Being taller I appreciate the longer LOP (14.5-ish). The action and trigger had an initial gritty feel, but after a strip down and polish, it now slides like butter. After 3 years it's never leaked air. I also like that I get to decide when to engage the safety - not an automatic reset. The multi shot tray is fun for a quick succession, but the single shot makes me slow down. The pressure gauge is on the bottom - a small detail, but a much safer location.
Things I Would Have ChangedForget the scope package. Sell as rifle only.
What Others Should KnowToday, I shot a 1.25" horizontal / 3/4" vertical (25 shot) group at 30 yards. I think the rifle is more accurate than I am. Forget the single shot tray. Individual pellets are easy to load with a pair of aquarium planting tweezers.
