Cocking was not all that bad. putting in the pellets was not all that bad. The chamber opened up fairly large, and I was able to put my pellet in the barrel fairly easily. What is nice, is, if you drop your pellet, it falls in the chamber. You can tilt your gun and get the pellet out, instead of the pellet falling through to the ground. It is balanced on the forearm. In other words, all the weight (which it is heavy) is mostly in the forearm.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe edges behind the trigger where the screw goes in. It is extremely sharp from the synthetic plastic. When the warranty runs out, I will take a file to the sharp edge and smooth it out, so that it will not cut my thumb. The safety. . .I hate the safety of the HW guns I have. They are automatic, and slide from left to right from the left side of the gun. I always seem to forget to slide the safety. I wish it was either on or off, dependent upon the shooter, not the cocking of the gun.
What Others Should KnowI purchased the HW97KT Synthetic. in 22cal. Same gun as this, but in Synthetic. I really like the synthetic. stock. It is a little lighter.
The only thing I do not like about the synthetic, is the sharp edges behind the trigger guard and where the cocking lever comes
down.
Accuracy seems to be very well. I have not tested the accuracy with different pellets yet. I have only used Crosman hollow point.
With the CPHP I was able to group about 1/2 inch at 25 yards. That half inch had one flier that opened up the group from about
1/4 of an inch. I tried about 5 different times for a 1/4 inch group, but always seemed to have one or two that opened up the group
from 1/4 inch or less, to about 1/2 inch. I need try a bunch of different pellets to find a good match. I have only had this gun a week
or so. Very few pellets through it, so longevity, accuracy, and other things will follow in my report when I have had the gun long enough
to put it through the real test
Accuracy, build quality and overall smoothness. I love the mechanical nature of cocking, loading and firing a very high quality German made rifle. I equipped mine with a Hawke Sidewinder 6-20X-44mm scope (which is excellent).
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing! This rifle is amazing!
What Others Should KnowI own a Benjamin Marauder Field and Target with a Lothar Walther barrel. I believe the HW 97 to be equal in accuracy. I'll post up a pic of a 5 shot group I fired two days ago at 25 yds. using H&N Field Target Trophy pellets, 14.66 gr. The group measured out at .325 inches! I've only fired 100 rounds through this rifle and am still learning how to fire it. I'm an experienced shooter with powder rifles and pistols. I believe I can get sub-MOA groups at 50 yds. with more practice
Fit and finish excellent. Unbelievably accurate.
Things I Would Have ChangedNot one thing.
What Others Should KnowIf you are looking for the best this is it. Highly recommend this rifle.
I love everything about this rifle. I am shooting 5 shot groups that can be covered with a dime at 25 yards, and the rifle has less than 100 shots thru it. The rifle was delivered quickly and I was able to get a scope mounted on it and take out a few tree rats before our season went out!
Things I Would Have ChangedAbsolutely nothing needs to be changed!
What Others Should KnowPyramid Air has been great to work with and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
The Weihrauch is very consistent. Excellent grouping, adjustments are predicable. It took me less than 5 minutes to sight in.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe gun is very nice. The only thing I might look at is the length of the stock. But overall its a good fit.
What Others Should KnowIm very happy with the rifle. I purchased mine after shooting a different kt 97. I paired it with a Hawk AirMax scope.
I own both the HW77- iron sites. And the HW97 with scope. Both similar in accuracy. Both heavy weights I will not hunt with the scope. Not a fair comparison for the animal. I really enjoy the accuracy of both guns. Far target practice I put plastic disposable spoons on a cardboard 12x12 inch square. 3 or 4 in a row and see if I could hit them from 75 feet. Cardboard hold the spoons and shows the hole when I miss. Cheap and effective.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe safety is over kill. Easy to get used to after a tin or so. Adjustable butt pad spacers would be nice for the guns with a scope, although no companies offer them other than sniper rifles.
What Others Should KnowThe adjustable trigger is world class. I kept the trigger at factory set for the HW77. For the HW97 I lightened up the trigger. With the scope I could see that a lighter trigger was more accurate. If you dont Hit the target do not blame the gun!
Exquisite craftsmanship and deadly accurate.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing.
What Others Should KnowThis rifle is a thing of beauty. This is a rifle you can just enjoy by just looking at it.
This is a verrrrrry accurate air rifle...with the right pellet. I shot several different pellets and found that Hatsan H&N Terminator HP Pellets, .22 Caliber, 7.25/16.36 Grain was the best in my rifle. I consistently shot 1/3 inch groups at 25 yards.
Things I Would Have ChangedI would rather have had the synthetic stock. I didn't know it was available when I purchased the one I have.
What Others Should KnowThere are a lot of YouTube videos available on this gun. I couldn't find any negative comments. It is better than I expected.

Excellent build quality and accuracy.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe thumb hole stock is a bit shorter than the standard one which can make setting up the scope a bit interesting.
What Others Should KnowThe HW97 and HW77 are tough to beat when it comes to spring piston airgun accuracy. I use mine for field target competition and routinely get 1 hole groups beyond 40 yards using H&N FTT pellets in .177. All metal and wood construction which makes for a heavy but quality airgun. While the TX200 is comparable, I find that the HW97 is a bit easier to load since the port is accessible from either side of the action. The barrel sitting a bit higher in the action also contributes to this. While some might consider it a bit pricey, I think you get what you pay for.
