I like not relying on co2. Pneumatic air guns are excellent for all year round shooting while co2 is only good during the warmer part of the year. I like the lower sound levels compared to co2 pistol's like my Crosman 2240's and various Gamo, S&W and Crosmanco2 "action" pistols. I love the reliablilty of a consistent muzzle velocity and this Beeman p-17 provides that :) I like how the p-17 is a large sized air pistol that kind of reminds me of a magnum research desert eagle...and I really like the built in open sights on this pistol! Plus, the dovetail is a nice touch although pumping this pistol can't be easy with a sight or scope mounted, even still, it's nice of Beeman to include a dovetail.
Things I would have changed:Rubber grips would make holding and shooting this pistol even better than it is! A rubber grip on the top for better grip while pumping might be useful.
What others should know:Follow all airgun maintainence and lubrication instructions if u want this pistol to continue working perfectly for years to come.

I really like the sights. The contrast between the luminous red and green dots really seem to stand out in the environment in which I shoot. The punch behind the pellets is also not bad considering that it uses only one stroke and doesn't require an extra lever for an adult male to have enough force to cock it.
Things I would have changed:Not much, but it would be nicer if it were a little easier to load. After you get used to it, it is okay as well.
What others should know:This gun require more grip than kids and some women are able to generate when at the last portion of the travel during cocking. I generally grip around the portion of the cocking level and the barrel simultaneously and just to the inside of the rear sight so that I can squeeze it together without catching any skin between the lever and the rest of the gun.

I wanted to like the P17. It is accurate, has an excellent trigger pull and adequate sights. Unfortunately it locked up after about fifty shots and could not be fired or unloaded. The pistol was made safe and returned. As usual PA's return service was excellent.
Things I would have changed:Make it easier to cock.
What others should know:Cocking the P17 will give your shoulder muscles a workout. The pistol is not for the weak

The trigger is very smooth, but there is travel in the second stage before it fires. Feels like I am shooting a pcp pistol with the sharp snap of the air leaving the gun.
Things I would have changed:I bought two of these and both have the same long 2nd stage travel. The grip is a little long for medium size hands like mine, I will have to make a palm shelf to make the gun feel better. I had to stipple my grip to reduce the slippery feel of the smooth plastic.
What others should know:Through lots of trials, I was able to grind down the correct parts in the seer so I now have a crisp 2nd stage trigger. I will buy more of this gun, modify the trigger and use them as amazing target and camping guns.

I know this is a Chinese knock- off of the Beeman P3, but this pistol is really a joy to play with. I use this to keep my aim sharp indoors; I trust it for its accuracy and ease of use (once I got the hang of loading it, big hands and all!). The look, feel and heft of this gun are all truly impressive, given the paltry few dollars spent on it! It fits my hand like a real firearm, and it doesn't look like a cheap toy. It fires with a very low noise level, indoors or out.
Things I would have changed:MAYBE slightly easier access to the breech for loading pellets. Click detents on the elevation of the rear sight would be cool, too!
What others should know:This pistol can be tricky to load if you have larger hands like me... Though it does get easier with practice. It has really good, repeatable accuracy and is very safe to shoot indoors once one gets to know the 'personality' of the gun.

This would be a great pistol at 4x the price! Accurate, VERY good trigger. Did I mention price. Wow.
Things I would have changed:Nothing really. Like all modern air guns the automatic safety feature is annoying. This a personal dislike and is not a negative statement about the pistol. I'd like to see a .22 version and an option for standard (non- fiber optic) sight.
What others should know:I am keeping an eye on the seals since others had issues with failure and leaks on some guns. So far, so good for me. It really likes RWS Hobby pellets. This pistol is great for shooting snails off my backyard wall. One shot, one kill LOL, love it. Quiet enough for urban backyards. Cocking effort might be to high for smaller kids.

Nice super smooth trigger, gun is very quiet, the pellet hitting the trap is louder then the gun. Great sights very solid plus the red/green fiber optics really help especially shooting in a low light area. Packs a nice punch as the pellets are just shredded from going into the trap. Great weight to it and fits nicely in your hands.
Things I would have changed:It is a bit of a bear to close but well worth it for the price and effectiveness of the gun. Really no complaint about it for what this gun does with one pump it is worth it.
What others should know:You cant beat this gun for the price; I have numerous other higher priced pistols that are no where near as accurate and fun as this one. Great gun for getting into the sport as it is cheap (pricewise) has a great trigger is super quiet and accurate.

I've heard the saying so much fun you can't put it down and thought it was an exaggeration but its so true with this gun..... Accurate, good ballance, and I found it relatively easy to hold once you get the hang of it. Cocking also was not as hard as what was reported
Things I would have changed:The price is so low I think people are turned away and miss a lot of fun..
What others should know:This gun is designed for simple target practice. ENJOY. ..

Liked the general feel and heft. The trigger was very good. Cannot comment on the accuracy as I am new to air gunning and have not shot a lot in general for fifty years. Discovered that my eyes don't work as well as they once did. Having said that I think it might be pretty accurate.
Things I would have changed:Loading, both the cocking and the insertion of the pellet.
What others should know:Probably would have kept it but I happened upon an old Daisy 717 that suited me much better so I returned the P17 within the 30 days. Thanks Pyramyd. I'll be back.

The weight and feel of the gun is fantastic....more like a gun twice the price. It looks great and the sights are easy to line up and the accuracy is right on.
Things I would have changed:I can't think of anything that I would change.
What others should know:I, like many others have mentioned, thought I was going to break my hand trying to cock this gun the first time. However, once I watched an on-line video of a guy reviewing the gun, where he showed how to use the palm of your left hand up near the rear sight, pushing down and getting maximum leverage, I find it no problem to cock. Yes, initial reactions aren't always correct. I can't stop wanting to shoot this gun.....and it's so nice to not have to keep loading CO2 capsules. I enjoy it almost as much as my Umarex Colt Commander.

I can't believe I can buy this quality of a pistol at this price. OK, so it isn't the end all, but for the price it offers a lot of fun. The weight and feel of it, the sights, rifled barrel, etc., it is a hoot! Nothing else to buy but pellets!
Things I would have changed:I wish it was easier to cock/pump, but then that would mean a reduction in velocity. Btw, I put this gun through my chronograph and it shot a very tight spread in the 496-504 range with Crosman 7.9 pointed. It is a little tricky loading, but not really a problem.
What others should know:When I first got this gun I pumped it and was thinking that it took so much effort that I probably wouldn't shoot it much. Wrong! Once you start shooting, you just keep going like the Everready bunny. I wear a glove on my left hand making it less punishing to pump during an extended shooting session. It is hard to pump and it is single shot but it is still fun and has a trigger that I like a lot and I'm actually pretty spoiled on triggers. It feels good in the hand, it is a full sized pistol and it points well and I love being able to see the pellet in flight when the light is just right. It is so inexpensive, and so good it is hard to argue against owning one.

Great looking gun. It has good weight and balance. It has good power, equal to 7 pumps of my Crosman 1377, so in the low 400s.The sights are simple, although no information was included about the sights, and are quite accurate. The automatic safety setting is probably a good idea. The trigger pressure is the best. It makes my other guns seem very clumsy. I'm sure the light trigger pressure is one of the main reasons the gun is as accurate as it is. The barrel length is fairly long and the sound really is quite muted, both good things.
Things I would have changed:The manufacturer claims the cocking pressure is 28 lbs, but I'm not a sissy and I have difficulty cocking it without out bracing it on my leg. There is no cocking assist like on some other guns probably because of the way the guns is set up. Along that same complaint is, in order to get the best grip on it to cock you have to touch the rear sight. I have harmed it yet, but it is a distinct possibility. The other thing is the loading of the pellet. It is hard to fit the pellet in because there is no guide. You have to get it just right in order for it to fit in the barrel.
What others should know:Take advantage of Pyramid Air's sales promotions. They are worth waiting for!

The size and weight of the gun are perfect. I love not having to pump multiple times or use CO2. With CO2, the velocity is all over the place. The sights are outstanding, and really shame standard sights. There's really no competition for the P17 anywhere close to its price range. All the other single-pump pistols are either incredibly hard to cock (check out the Vortex Piston Hatsan-an excellent air pistol, but very hard to cock and very difficult to shoot one-handed), severely unbalanced, funny looking, or very heavy (or incredibly expensive). I really wish there were more like this to choose from.
Things I would have changed:Not sure how these could be changed, but I'd like a gas piston version, and a way to make it so accidentally pinching oneself wasn't so easy when cocking, and I'm also afraid I'm going to mess up the rear sights when cocking. Oh, and loading the pellet is a bit awkward.
What others should know:This is by far the most fun air pistol I've come across. Easy to cock, very well-balanced, awesome sights. I would say this is a very cheap 'must have' for everyone's collection. I've probably put about 1000 rounds through mine, and the only change, aside from it seeming to get easier to cock, is the 'hammer' doesn't latch all the way. I mean, it's secure, but I always push it closed(?) the rest of the way.
