Modern Families
The PSE NightHawk Recurve or AccuBow 2.0? For so many people, youngsters included, the desire to get outside for some real experiences seems to be less and less normal. Many modern families all too often live their lives through what they see others experiencing on a device as small as a cell phone. The beginning of so many conversations begin with, “I saw this video…” or “Did you see the tik tok…”
Then there are the video games or virtual reality devices that take people into other realms or life situations giving them experiences in their minds but not including their physical bodies. What does this do? What does this mean? Well I don’t know, I’m not a scientist or a shrink, I’m just the Bow Bully!
A Different Experience
I grew up with the desire to get outside and experience everything first hand. If I did experience something through someone else it was through a conversation being had or a book I read.
That being said, I learned to fight by wrestling with my dad, brothers and cousins. I learned what it was to apologize because in all my real experiences I made mistakes, people got hurt and things got broken. I learned how to accept apologies and forgive because others did the same.
Before shooting anything with any consequence of real size I learned to shoot a slingshot. Then by watching and listening to experienced people, my elders, I followed their instruction and gained real experience with other shooting apparatuses.
Real or Virtual?
In this blog I’d like to highlight some differences. (I’m sure my readers already know this, but for those that may not) A real experience and a virtual one are not the same. There are many great electronic training aids when it comes to the shooting world that have their place, but let it not be what determines if one is an archer or a hunter.
Take a simple recurve bow like the one I mentioned above, the PSE NightHawk Recurve, and practice at least fifteen minutes a day. My theory, (okay, it’s a proven fact), is you’re going to see more improvement and gain a better knowledge of your equipment and yourself. You’ll also get to see your successes and errors first hand when you make your way to the Morrell Yellow Jacket Bag.
To Better Know You
What you need to know about your equipment:
- How much it weighs
- The brace height
- The overall length
- The draw weight
- Your anchor points
- The impact at multiple distances
- The proper ammo
I’m not discounting the fact that there are some people who may not be able to partake of a real experience due to a physical disability or location. For those in that situation, the virtual archery “games” are a great alternative. My point to this blog is, to encourage people to a right mindset. Don’t think that by pushing a few buttons or drawing a string on an electronic bow gives you a passage to call yourself an archer!
Start Slow
If you’d like to give a real experience a whirl but want to keep it on the affordable side here are a couple of options. The PSE NightHawk Recurve or the PSE Uprising Compound Bow. Here’s to the opportunity to with confidence step into the real archery world through firsthand experiences!
I wouldn’t be surprised if after a little time with the NightHawk or the Uprising you’ll be shopping for something a little more refined and possibly more suitable. Suitable for what? Many applications because the full experience has got you hooked. If that’s the case check out the PSE Levitate Compound Bow. You won’t know until you’ve tried it, so get outside and get some real experience!
